Hey everyone!! I'm Back!! I'll be talking about the second project and going more into my opinion and what I learned while I listened to my classmates.            The first to present was Group 4 I believe they did a great explanation of gender equality in ancient times, going more into ancient Egypt. I learned how women of high status were held to a greater esteem. In Egypt mothers and daughters were recognized as legally competent without the supervision of a male. In Greece and Rome, women had few rights which restricted them from political participation and from owning or inheriting property, referring to Greek mythology. They often realized women and deprived them of education and viewed policing female sexuality. I just think that this was truly interesting because I also went more into the history . They also went into how in Greece and Rome, distinctions concerning sexual identity and same sex relationships appeared ...

Second Project Summary For this project, we were in the same groups as the first one, and Professor Sinkoff gave each group a topic. Each group needed to make an agenda, a brochure, and a presentation. One person from each group also had to record a short, one-minute video explaining the brochure, which was shown at an event on October 21st. This project was an interesting and challenging experience since there was a lot of research to be made, but luckily I was partnered up with an amazing group who helped me along the way! Group 4 presented first, and their topic was "Gender Equality." They shared key moments in history that led to today’s ideas of equality. For example, they talked about how women in ancient Egypt had certain rights, like inheriting property, compared to women in ancient Greece and Rome who had fewer rights. They also covered important events like the first Women’s Rights Convention and the 19th Amendment. I found their presentation very informative, espec...

Our Second Project... Hello everyone! My name is Jackeline Parra and, in this blog, I will write about the most recent project my classmates and I completed in our Introduction to Public speaking class. For this project we created presentations about Gender Equality, Education Policy, Immigration Policies, and the Electoral Process. The most distinctive part about this project from our last is the interviews. In this project we had to interview two people that had at least some knowledge about your topic. I really enjoyed this aspect of the presentations because it allows for conversation and questions. Having interviews also gives a different point of view about the topic, especially if the interviewee was very knowledgeable about the topic.    The first group to present was group four. Group four choose the topic of “Gender equality.” They began by first introducing the history of gender equality. One presenter made a slide about gender equality in the ancient times. ...

The Second Project... Hi everyone! It’s me again, this second post is going to be an overview through all the presentations we did for this second project.  For this second project we were divided into the same groups as in the first project, and then professor Sinkoff assigned us a topic for each group. In general, each group had to make an agenda, a brochure, and a presentation without including that one member of each group had to record a video of about one minute explaining the content of the brochure, those videos were recorded with the objective of being presented in an event that was held on October 21st.  In my case I was in charge of recording that video, the experience was very interesting and informative, but at the same time it was a bit challenging because the video had to be one or two minutes long and the topic that was assigned to my group had so much relevant information that I felt I could not cover it in such a short time.  Group 4 was the first...

Introduction. Hello, everyone. For our second group presentation, we discussed four points: Gender Equality, Education Policy, Immigration Policies, and the Electoral Process. All the groups framed these issues within their historical context and current struggles. This blog summarizes the main points from all the presentations. Group 1: Gender Equality. This presentation was a deep dive into gender equality, a fundamental human right that has made great strides in the last few hundred years but still faces many of the same challenges. Gender equality used to involve exclusively equal pay and representation in leadership. Still, today, it is about a woman's rights over her own body, reproductive freedom, and stopping violence against women. Gender inequality remains a huge issue in many parts of the world, especially in conflict or more culturally restricted areas like India or Asia where there is still, in some places, the idea that the woman should only be in charge of household ...

Overall, our first public speaking project was a rewarding and educational experience. The class was split up into four groups, each of which was assigned a different topic to present on, all of which revolved around the essential elements of public speaking preparation. We were able to obtain important insights on the different components that go into being a successful public speaker through this study. Despite the fact that every group approached the subject from a different angle, a few themes emerged, including the significance of preparation, audience participation, and confidence. The first group's theme was an introduction to public speaking, covering the fundamentals and necessary techniques for mastering the art. They did a great job creating the foundation for the remaining presentations, giving us a strong base on which to grow. The notion that anybody can learn public speaking, regardless of background or experience, was one of the main lessons to be learned from thei...

Hey Hey! My name is Ja’naya & I’ll be summarizing & going over what I learned from the chapters of me and my classmates :) . Chapter 1 -  In chapter 1 I learned that most college graduates say public speaking was one of the most beneficial classes they took. The goal of public speaking is to become an excellent speakers. Public speaking is an audience centered type of speaking you’ll have to understand your audience’s expectations and situations before speaking in order to connect with them during and after the presentation. Public speaking begun in the Western tradition with the Sophists teachers in ancient Greece. Roman philosophers and scholars categorized the elements of public communication into five “arts of public speaking” that still apply today.  Chapter 2-  In chapter 2 I learned many uncertainties associated with public speaking serve as sources of anxiety for speakers. For some speaking in public isn’t an ordinary activity. Another second uncertainty a...
