Second Project Summary
For this project, we were in the same groups as the first one, and Professor Sinkoff gave each group a topic. Each group needed to make an agenda, a brochure, and a presentation. One person from each group also had to record a short, one-minute video explaining the brochure, which was shown at an event on October 21st. This project was an interesting and challenging experience since there was a lot of research to be made, but luckily I was partnered up with an amazing group who helped me along the way!
Group 4 presented first, and their topic was "Gender Equality." They shared key moments in history that led to today’s ideas of equality. For example, they talked about how women in ancient Egypt had certain rights, like inheriting property, compared to women in ancient Greece and Rome who had fewer rights. They also covered important events like the first Women’s Rights Convention and the 19th Amendment. I found their presentation very informative, especially in showing how much society has changed over time.
Group 3’s topic was "Education Policies." They began by defining education policies as the rules and laws that shape schools and learning. They explained how President Andrew Johnson created the Department of Education, but it was later reduced because it was seen as too powerful. They also compared recent education views: former President Donald Trump supported school choice to give parents more options, while Vice President, Kamala Harris focused on teacher pay and better funding for schools that need it. I thought this group did a great job explaining the different policies and why education is important.
Group 1’s topic was "Immigration Policies." They explained the difference between refugees and asylum seekers and discussed reasons people migrate, like escaping war or poverty. They also talked about recent U.S. immigration policies, like Trump’s use of Title 42 during COVID-19, which led to many deportations, and Biden’s continuation of the policy. They explained how Trump’s “zero-tolerance” policy led to family separations and how Biden later reunited many of these families. They did an amazing job and their explanation was very clear and well thoughtout.

Very nice reflection!
